Proverb

Harĩ mũthuri hatĩitagwo,maaĩ.

Translation

Where there is elderly man, one must not pour water.

Comment

Both proverbs acclaim the honourable position held by elderly people but display reverence differently. Whereas, the original proverb castigates being foul-mouthed, the postproverbial shuns even jokes. Also, while the original proverb is philosophically stated, the postproverbial is pedestrian.
