Proverb

Ita rĩtarĩ ndundu, rĩhũragwo na njũgũma ĩmwe.

Translation

Warriors that are not united are scattered with one club (bullet).

Comment

The traditional proverb is poetic, metaphorical and philosophical. The use of one bullet or club as the cause of defeat is a clear indication of the repercussions of disunity; disunity is a vice which heralds weakness. The postproverbial is pedantic in the choice of words showing that there is no need to go to war if the warriors are not united because for such, defeat is inevitable.
