Proverb

: Kaana gacangacangi gatigaga, kwao gũgĩthĩnjwo.

Translation

A restless child leaves home just as a goat is about to be slaughtered.

Comment

The original proverb is poetic and at the same time philosophical. Symbolically, a goat being slaughtered is an indication that there is plenty to feast on and hence no need to go roaming in search of food. In the postproverbial, the nature of the restless child is stressed.
