Proverb

Kaguoya kainũkĩre nyina, gekagima.

Translation

The coward returned home safely to his mother.

Comment

The focus is on the coward’s characteristic of vacillation or shirking responsibility. In the traditional proverb, the coward does not participate in activity/war, hence he returns to his mother unhurt. In the postproverbial, the coward simply returned home, perhaps even before reaching the battlefield.
