Proverb

Nyumba na riika, ndiumago.

Translation

The clan and the age-group cannot be vacated.

Comment

The traditional proverb recognises clan and age-group systems as rooted institutions of the people and as such there are no negotiations on whether to belong to them or not. The postproverbial represents the iconoclast imagination of modern society in which association or cultural belonging becomes optional or restricted to certain age or tradition.
